EYE ON ART | Kensington & Chelsea Art Week, Giorgetti Store London
Special exhibition in collaboration with Pontone Gallery in the refurbished London Store with the 2023 collection
On the occasion of Kensington+Chelsea Art Week, an artistic festival that celebrates the cultural heritage of West London, Giorgetti returns to the British capital with the format "Giorgetti walks with Art" in collaboration with Pontone Gallery, who from their London headquarter in London has been representing since 2016 an extensive roster of international artists who work across several disciplines, from painting to photography to sculpture.
Giorgetti has chosen this international event – which includes more than 150 events and installations in the borough's galleries, museums and exhibition spaces taking place from 22 June to 2 July 2023 – to feature a selection of works by contemporary artists such as Reef Hsu, Lee Jungwoong, Raffaele Rossi, Choi Soowhan, and Tim Wright.
A project that celebrates the inseparable bond that unites the worlds of art and design, two complementary languages that engage in an increasingly frequent and fruitful exchange of views. This is what epitomises Giorgetti's stylistic signature: the ability to dialogue with different worlds and to open up to new proposals along trajectories that are often far from conventional well-trodden paths.
The event is also an appropriate opportunity to introduce the new layout of the London store, where the artworks will interact with the new items from the 2023 collection.
Through constant research and experimentation, the brand continues to shape its living universe through projects that, in the inseparable connection between beauty and functionality, promote the value of experience by emphasising the role of design in improving the quality of life.
In a dialogue between craftsmanship and production technology, the designs of the 2023 collection interpret this idea and tell, even in the smallest of the details, the deep meaning of designing according to Giorgetti and their philosophy. Versatile products with an elegant and striking yet unique character, which is never conventional and that stands out for the very high quality of the materials, the tailoring and the obsessive research into finishes, shapes, textures and colours.
The result is a conceptual journey where art and design naturally and spontaneously integrate in the spaces of the Giorgetti monobrand. A showroom spread over two levels with a total area of 400 square meters, where the products of the Giorgetti collection are showcased, including both new and iconic pieces to emphasise the distinctive design culture of the brand and to demonstrate the company's ability to offer a genuine lifestyle.
The space welcomes guests to the living room with a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere thanks to the pleasant seats of the new Karphi modular sofa by Carlo Colombo, a modern system that offers maximum versatility outlining a dynamic and compelling domestic landscape, accompanied by the curved and enveloping shapes of the new Hero armchairs and the interlocking play of the new Woody & Mia collection of tables and poufs. The space is framed by the new Kukei sideboard by Mauro Lipparini, a timeless piece of furniture that in its microcosm interprets a personal dynamic and variable composition in harmony with contemporary living, creating a stage with a light but strict volume.
The path continues into the GK.03 kitchen where, with their curvilinear shape, the new Skirt barstools by m2telier offer a comfortable station by displaying a full volume on the back inspired by the silhouette of a skirt. The space at the centre of the Store is dominated by the sculptural and monumental new G-Code table by Dante O. Benini and Lucy Gonzo, which is surrounded by the new Hero armchairs that are themselves distinguished by a strong emphasis on comfort.
To the right of the entrance, the bedroom area features the Frame bed and bedside tables designed by Carlo Colombo, whose geometric lines suggest an extraordinary formal abstraction juxtaposed to a certain emotionality in the details. Together with the Shirley mirror, also by Carlo Colombo, whose concept revolves around the folded metal ribbon that characterises the collection by becoming a structural element.
The space is enriched by the Edward dressing table by Dainelli Studio, a multifunctional design, equipped with a mirror and storage compartments for brushes, combs and similar items, presented together with the Montgomery armchair, also designed by Dainelli Studio, which, while drawing inspiration from classical shapes, experiments with more aggressive, dynamic, and contemporary lines.
The home office area, protagonist of contemporary living, is interpreted with the shapes of the Mogul desk and complemented by the Baron chair.
In the basement, the second living room chooses the contemporary lines of the Soho modular sofa by Carlo Colombo, together with the Griffe coffee tables designed by Giancarlo Bosio and Giorgetti R&D − characterised by a refined play of joints, overlaps, as well as glossy and matte surfaces − and Montgomery armchairs. On the opposite side, the minimal lines of the Aton sofa together with the Janet armchairs and the Host bar cabinet create an area for the guests to wind-down and relax. Behind the sofa stands out the seductive play of weaving of the Borealis screen.
The second bedroom area features the Pegaso bed together with the Reiwa modular wardrobe system
In the nearby outdoor section dominate the Aldìa outdoor collection designed by Carlo Colombo, a complete system that brings Giorgetti's passion for the detail outdoors.
Decorative objects from the Atmosphere Collection, including the new En Plein Air picnic set created in collaboration with Pineider, the new Floema plates collection designed by Roberto Cambi, and the new Nastus ceramic vases complete and enrich the space.
The collection of artworks from Pontone Gallery includes "Alaska", “I Saw the Light", "Something Wicked…" and "Not Far Away” a selection of paintings by English artist Tim Wright, who invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the misty atmospheres of his oak wreaths inspired by the carvings of Grinling Gibbons.
The natural world and the cosmos are the protagonist of the work of the Taiwanese painter Reef Hsu's with his "Root根”, "Symbiosis 共生-2" and "Untitled 無題 17”.
Raffaele Rossi explores his love of material surfaces with the elegiac "Tanger dans la nuit", while Lee Jungwoong’s “Brush” − a trompe l'oeil on Korean rice paper depicting a brush and ink swipes − showcases a dynamism and motion that far surpasses a simple two-dimensional image.
Texture, form and matter characterise "Emptiness_forest path" by Choi Soowhan, who creates meticulously immaculate, quasi-photorealistic representations by drilling holes of various sizes into a LED-backlit laminate board. The result is art based on precision, where Choi masterfully manipulates material and light.
